Village of South Orange: Smart Growth Plan

South Orange Village Smart Growth Plan - The objective of South Orange's Smart Growth Plan was to reinforce and implement, in a coordinated and efficient way, the smart growth principles of the State Plan, while incorporating a public visioning process as a cornerstone. There were several issues that required coordinated planning, including the revitalization of predominantly mixed-use, secondary commercial corridors that had lagged behind the Central Business District (CBD). Other issues included:

• enhancing the connections between open space, recreation, and bicycle/pedestrian planning,

• promoting walkability and use of mass transit

• integrating land uses

• encouraging sustainable site design techniques
